Made in Greece, this film was considered very experimental for its time. After Greece and Turkey have signed new boundary agreements, the two countries exchange nationals. The new boundaries mean the Greeks of Ionia must leave their homeland. Valdi is the wife of a physician, Baldimas, who is much older than she. Instead of growing wheat and grapes as the government suggested, she grows roses as her husband's family once did. Recurring scenes pop up throughout the film, including one in which Baldimas ponders his failing marriage and his control over the group of Ionian immigrants. Valdi, reflecting her husband's dissatisfaction, tears apart the rose garden. This unusual movie ends with a flashback of the film shown in a 30-second sequence. leave a comment
