Set against the backdrop of professional football, Michael Ritchie's sharp comedy is both a three-cornered romance and a scathing satire of self-help movements. Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson are teammates on a fictitious Super Bowl-bound football team owned by Robert Preston, a recent convert to an EST-like organization "gurued" by Bert Convy.
