The Secret Of My Success: Review

This weak office comedy has little to recommend it except an empathetic performance from Michael J. Fox, playing Brantley Foster, a Kansas farm boy who sets off for the Big Apple. There, with true yuppie ingenuity, Brantley hits up relative Howard Prescott (Richard Jordan) for a job with his large corporation and gets a lowly position in the mail room. He spots attractive Christy Wills (Helen Slater), a rising junior executive, but when she turns up her pert nose at the mailboy he resolves to get ahead fast. Accordingly, he locates a deserted office in the corporate building and moves in, posing as an executive while continuing to work in the mail room. All the usual business canards and stereotypes are represented in this lackluster, witlessly directed production. Only Fox is worth watching, but his role is more suited to a one-act play. leave a comment
