Dix plays a Union officer, who, along with his brother, Post, is sent behind Confederate lines to gather intelligence information about rebel troops' strength in this remake of the 1919 silent Civil War epic. Once in Dixie, however, Dix falls in love with Grey, the daughter of a
Confederate general, and his sense of honor is put to the test. Eventually Dix is captured by the Confederates and thrown in the brig, but he meets his fate willingly, knowing that Grey will be waiting with a mint julep in her hand when the war is over.
