A stark drama about friendship and romance that stars Borgnine and Mills as Australian sugar cane cutters. The two spend their annual five-month vacations by heading to Sydney and carrying on with their mistresses, Baxter and Lansbury. After 16 years, however, things change--Borgnine loses his job and cannot afford his annual habit of buying Baxter a doll souvenir, while Lansbury has married and sent another woman in her place. The changes prove difficult, and tensions rise between Borgnine and Mills. Finally, in an attempt to recapture their youth, Borgnine and Baxter decide to become husband and wife.
