The eccentric directing debut of prominent visual artist David Salle follows a regular guy (Griffin Dunne) who encounters a televisual self-help guru (Dennis Hopper) and is plunged into a series of increasingly surreal catastrophes. The film isn't nearly as funny, or as keenly
satirical, as Salle seems to think it is, and the marvelous cast is mostly wasted.
