Scruffy

Another soppy boy-and-his-dog story, with little Gainsborough an orphan separated from his beloved dog when a wealthy woman, who doesn't care much for the animal, adopts the child. Without his dog, Gainsborough finds life dull and runs away from the old lady. He finds sanctuary on a barge, where crooks Melford and Merson take him and his dog under their wings. When it looks as though the two men will go to jail, the dog comes to the rescue by getting rid of the incriminating evidence. Melford and Merson have become so attached to Gainsborough that they are willing to give up their life of crime if allowed to retain custody of the boy. Unabashed sentimentalism but g...
