The fourth in the series begun by Fritz Lang in 1960. This time the spirit of the murderous villain takes over the body of a psychiatrist and begins a reign of terror. Van Eyck is determined to capture the killer but runs into an obstacle in the form of the evil Kinski. Well-acted, but
the disinterested direction adds nothing. One cannot help but wonder how master director Lang would have overseen the acting of Kinski and Van Eyck, who both have a fine edge of pathological violence that would have lent itself nicely to a more expressionistic, Langian treatment.
