Schoolgirl Diary: Review

Valli turns in a virtuoso performance as a snobbish student who comes from a wealthy family. She heads her sorority, but doesn't do as well in her classes, failing almost every subject she takes. She tries to compensate by making a play for chemistry professor Checchi. When she suspects that fellow classmate Dilian also has her sights on Checchi, tensions flare. Everything is sweetly cleaned up for the finale, however, as Valli gives Dilian a life-saving blood transfusion. Valli's expert handling of her acting duties got her a contract with David O. Selznick, and she appeared the following year in THE PARADINE CASE and shortly afterwards in THE THIRD MAN. Dilian, whose performance was thought by many viewers to surpass that of Valli, remained in Europe, taking secondary roles in a few films. (In Italian: English Subtitles.) leave a comment
