A tough
film noir about a cop, Johnson, who is determined to track down his partner's killers. He gets a tip on a couple of bookies from one of their molls, pursuing and eventually killing one and getting injured himself. Hampering his efforts is the concern of his wife, Dahl, who fears
for his safety, urging him to quit the force. He finally gives in to her and turns in his badge. An officer who takes his place, however, gets killed, and Johnson returns to the beat, even more intent on revenge than before.
