starstarstarstarstar
One of Howard Hawks's undisputed masterpieces, and a landmark in the screen depiction of gangsters. This 1932 film was the first to show the mobster as an adult, fully developed homicidal maniac who thrived on murder and power. Paul Muni stars as Tony Camonte, a nasty character loosely based on the real-life scarface Al Capone, who has thing for fast cars, flashy clothes, machine guns and his slinky sister, Ann Dvorak. I was watching The Breakfast ...

Question: I was watching The Breakfast Club on AMC and noticed scenes that aren't on my commercial tape of the movie. Were these lost scenes that were added in, or were they specially made for television? I've had a similar experience with Billy Madison and always wondered what the deal was.

Answer: The deal is that movies are often aired on broadcast and basic cable television in versions that differ to some degree from the theatrical versions. The two big reasons are standards and practices, and length. Because television programming goes into so many households for free or for a minimal basic-cable fee, the programming assumption is that it has to be held to a different standard than material that people have to actively seek out. You have to buy a ticket and go to a theater or pay a steep monthly fee to subscribe to a premium cable channel like HBO or pay to buy a movie on video or DVD, so the assumption is that befo read more

Pompeo Ponders Grey's Matters

Ellen Pompeo of ABC's red-hot Grey's Anatomy (Sundays at 10 pm/ET) opens up to TV Guide about her gypsy soul, her red-carpet style and how she really feels about Meredith and McDreamy. TV Guide: You've been in movies with Jake Gyllenhaal, Leonardo DiCaprio and Luke Wilson. Why did you switch to TV? Ellen Pompeo: When there's a very strong female character, it's hard to walk away. In all the great, interesting films, the parts for me were really small, and the only lead par read more

How Low Can O.C.'s Young Kaitlin Go?

"Welcome to the O.C... er, young miss." Tonight at 8 pm/ET, Fox's The O.C. brings back Marissa's kid sister to stir things up — but really, how much trouble can a 14-going-on-15-year-old get into? After realizing just how young Kaitlin and her portrayer, Willa Holland, are, TVGuide.com scrapped our first question — it was snarky and had to do with Lindsay Lohan's recent exploits — then went on to press the ingenue for details about Kaitlin's agenda and ask about her famous stepdad, Brian De Palma, and "uncle" Steven Spielberg.

TVGuide.com: Like you, Kaitlin is 14. Hellcats are really starting out young these days, huh?
Willa Holland:
Yeah!

South Beach So Miami Vice doesn't...

South BeachSo Miami Vice doesn't need to worry: It's still the coolest show set in South Florida ever. Well, Miami Vice and Golden Girls. Possibly Good Morning, Miami. OK, just kidding on that last one. Anyway, sorry J.Lo, but your show is pretty much beauty and the beat. It's got a kickin' soundtrack and lots of pretty, almost-nude people struttin' their stuff at the beach, at the club and on Ocean Drive, often in slow motion. However, it's just a tad light on something called substance. Two Brooklyn dudes leave their Jennies-from-the-block and head to the sunnier pastures of South Beach. One wants to track down his model ex-girlfriend. The other wants to track down girls, money and power, not necessarily in that order. And shock u read more
