Scared Stiff: Review

Thin plot has Haley as a newspaper reporter who knows beans about news. When an escaped convict has the entire staff of the paper involved, Haley is assigned to cover a wine festival. He goes to the wrong place, gets on a bus on which a murder is committed, and becomes a suspect. When he's forced to stop at an inn, Haley's girlfriend Savage and detective Borg also turn up. The owners of the inn have a pair of jeweled chessmen that have piqued several people's interest, including the escaped convict's. Haley winds up catching the crook when he tries to lay claim to the chessmen. Far-fetched plot and the numerous coincidences stretch the imagination a bit too far.
