Actor James Hong has carved out an honorable career as an inscrutably funny character comedian, but as a director he traffics in smirking sexuality and lumpen slapstick. Sprung from a Singapore slammer, Texas gold-digger Michelle Drake (Rena Riffel) brusquely abandons Dr. Adam Chance (James Hong), the mogul who wed and rescued her. She steals an heirloom ruby and makes tracks for Fort Worth, where her fiance, Stephen Tanner (Paul Pender), is arguing with his brother Jack (William Kent) about how to run the failing family oil business. He's also involved with his secretary, Lisa (Shannon Tweed), who's hell-bent on convincing him to marry her instead of Michelle. Wily Dr. Chance flies to Fort Worth and offers the Tanner brothers the $20. million that would put them back in the big leagues; his price is the return of Michelle. As Stephen tries to overcome Jack's reservations about becoming white slavers, Lisa hatches a backup plan that will checkmate vacillating Stephen and leave her on Easy Street. Lubricious and ludicrous, this sleazy picture overdoes the erotica and undercooks its caper-film plotting. With its mind firmly planted at genital level, the screenplay scarcely bothers to make sense out of the characters' cross-purposes. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
