Screen adaptation of Claude Binyon's novel casts Montgomery as an egomaniacal producer out to ruin anyone who gets in his path. Payne, who plays a novelist, finds this out the hard way after ignoring advice from his wife, Hayward. The famous producer has agreed to stage Payne's play on
Broadway. Hayward's attitude toward Montgomery sours after she and her husband are invited to a party given in honor of Payne's new play. The arrogant producer is a bit too pushy for Hayward's taste, and she warns Payne to back out before it is too late. Montgomery then goes on to destroy the
career of his girl friend, Totter, by spreading rumors which cause her to lose her contract....
