Basehart plays a wounded gunslinger who finds a home to recuperate in at the humble ranch of Taylor, an ex-Confederate officer who has seen enough of bloodshed. He grows fond of Taylor's sister, Granada, and develops a deep respect for the peaceful ways of the man who has given him shelter.
