This college football tale predates the cynicism found in 1951's SATURDAY'S HERO. College gridiron star Val (Van Heflin) refuses to put up with the patronage he receives because of his athletic ability. He wants to get through his classes through hard work and development of his mental
faculties, just like everyone else. To make ends meet, Val scalps some tickets to a big game, is caught, and expelled--a glaring example of the school administration's hypocrisy. He transfers to a rival, apparently more virtuous, school, and revels in on-field heroics and the victory of his alma
mater.
