This was the second time around for the popular play by Abbott and Weaver. The first, a silent, was made in 1926 and starred Louise Brooks, Lawrence Gray, and Evelyn Brent. This one was released with sound and in a silent version that had titles written by 20-year-old Joseph Mankiewicz.
