Only Saps Work

1930, Movie, NR, 77 mins

starstarstarstar
Light-hearted farce sees Errol as a kleptomaniac who begins by pilfering small items like cigars from passersby and works his way up to bank robbing. There's a hilarious scene where Errol vists a health farm, posing as a detective, and gives bellhop Erwin lessons on becoming a private eye. Arlen plays his law-abiding friend who, unknowingly, aides Errol in his robberies. The great title reflects the effort of a few in this cast. leave a comment

Which is why that cliff-hanger of a commercial break that made it look like Jim was on the chopping block led to this living-room scene: me staring slack-jawed at the television and demanding aloud, "So help me, Michael Scott, if you fire Jim I will storm out of this office so fast it'll make your head swim." And then I remembered that I don't actually work at Dunder-Mifflin, got embarrassed, and went to the fridge for a composure-regaining soda. (While we're at it, let's just get all my humiliating Office-watching quirks out on the table. read more

There are laughs and there are laughs. Larry walking into the sushi place to loud greetings of "Chicken Teriyaki Boy"? That's a laugh. But Larry's father watching porn so loud it could be heard throughout the whole front hall of the nursing home? That's a laugh. I mean, I'm giggling as I type this. His sweet, old dad with those giant glasses, saying "What? I can't hear it." Truly a classic moment, and one that can be shown only on pay-cable.
