The Civil War has ended and Scott, a Confederate soldier, heads West to forget the defeat. He has broken ties with his three brothers (Courtland, Thompson, and Archer) and takes a job with the Santa Fe railroad. But his brothers refuse to take money from northern businesses and instead get mixed up with some gamblers, led by Roberts. As the railroad progresses Roberts convinces the brothers, along with henchman Mahoney (a former stunt man for B-western cowpoke Charles Starrett) to rob the Santa Fe. This leads to a climactic fight on the train, with Scott naturally coming out the winner. Though this was nowhere near the quality of Scott's later work, SANTA FE has its moments, with a grim, action-packed screenplay. Scott is fine as the stoic hero and the color photography uses the locations well. leave a comment
