Stevens loses his valuable show horse in a railroad accident. The stallion goes off into the Colorado wilderness and soon comes to love its freedom. Meanwhile, Stevens enlists the help of fellow horse-lover Gray in an effort to track down his animal. The horse has been pursued by others, though, and has become quite dangerous. Stevens and Gray catch up with it, fearing the stallion has become a killer. In the climactic scene, Stevens talks to his steed and finally coaxes the horse into coming back. After a retraining period the horse is back in competition, restored to its former manner. The location photography is beautiful in this well-told horse story. There's some good action and a suspenseful treatment of the subject, though SAND will probably have more appeal for children and horse lovers than for any other audience. leave a comment
