A stranger leaps from a train and ends up in a small Polish village. To the bewilderment of the residents, he claims to have lived there once before. No one recognizes him, but one family takes him in. However, the stranger refuses to reveal his past. All he says is that he changed his name from Kowalski to Malinowski as certain people following him would prefer him dead. The stranger's presence creates a weird aura that affects the entire population and soon the normally blase villagers are opening up their innermost feelings.
