Blyth is a young woman with a fervent belief in Saint Anne, the mother of Mary and patron saint of young girls. It seems St. Anne answers all of Blyth's prayers, such as those relating to brother O'Brian's boxing debut, Blyth's romances, and the fight against an alderman who wants to tear down the family home to make room for an apartment complex.
