Early programmer about a rough and tough waterfront saloon harpie who's collared by a skipper to keep her eye on a baby he's found in a life boat. It's just a re-working of SCARLET SEAS with Richard Barthelmess, but SAL OF SINGAPORE works well for what it is. Though talkies were a staple by 1929, this had only 18 minutes of dialog, which took up the final moments of the film. The actors make the transition from silent to speech without much trouble, although the dialog is creaky by modern standards.
