Sailor Beware

1951, Movie, NR, 108 mins

starstarstarstar
A drawn-out but frantic musical comedy that tries to use Lewis' antics and Martin's singing to the utmost. The boys play a couple of sailors assigned to a submarine, a situation that lends itself to Lewis' getting into one tight situation after another, including the inflation of a life raft. Every sailor gag in historical memory is used, many revolving around all the pretty girls available for Lewis and Martin to chase. Even with one gag after another, the movie is still a bit hard on the senses. Tunes include "Sailors' Polka," "Never Before," "Merci Beaucoup," "The Old Calliope," and "Today, Tomorrow, Forever" (Mack David, Jerry Livingston, sung by Martin). Remake of THE FLEET'S IN. leave a comment
