Veteran exploitation actor Wings Hauser turns up here in another revenge-driven actioner. At first glance, NO SAFE HAVEN looks a bit different from the standard genre fare, but soon after the plot machinery kicks in it becomes apparent that there wasn't much on the minds of the filmmakers after all. A pro football player (Tom Campitelli), who resisted pressure from drug dealers to throw a game, is sadistically murdered, along with his mother and younger brother. This well-done sequence grinds the rest of NO SAFE HAVEN into gear, as the family's third brother, Clete Harris (Hauser), decides to go after the men responsible for killing his family. Perhaps because Hauser cowrote the screenplay (with his wife, actress Nancy Locke), his performance has the kind of casual, ad-lib quality usually found in productions more disorganized than this one appears to have been. In addition to occasionally meaningless dialog, the film suffers from continuity problems, as Ronnie Rondell's direction doesn't always keep the rather minimal story in focus. leave a comment
