It's no more than two hours long, but Norman Jewison's hysterically funny parody of Cold War tensions still manages to poke fun at everything from small-town life to xenophobia. A Soviet submarine gets stuck on a sandbar off the coast of a tiny New England town, and all hell breaks lose. The laughs come fast and the pace never flags, thanks to the fine editing done by Terry Williams and future director Hal Ashby.
