Another bizarre performance for McCambridge has her leading her two brothers and sister-in-law on a rampage of bank robberies as a form of vengeance against the banker who refused her father a loan for necessary medical treatment. The father dies, sending McCambridge and her siblings on their road of revolt. McCambridge's role as the fiery gang head fits right in with the other odd characters she's portrayed throughout her career, most notably the gun-toting ranch owner in JOHNNY GUITAR and the Mexican girl who aids in the ravishment of Janet Leigh during the motel sequence in TOUCH OF EVIL. This curious film is highlighted by a soundtrack from the outrageous Frank Zappa, done a year or two before he hooked up with the Mothers of Invention. leave a comment
