A colorful story, set when the steamboat was just being introduced as a means to travel the colorful seas, this film casts Fyffe as the inventor, trying to drum up interest in his machine. Fairbanks, a mate on a windjammer, wants to be the man to make it go and gets financial backing in London. The film gains speed when the ship moves out to sea and the crew stages a near-mutiny, the ship breaks down, and storms buffet the ship night after night. The story is partly narrated, and is appealing throughout in both its historical and adventure aspects. leave a comment
