A gripping postwar tale which has Giller, years after his near-execution in a concentration camp, recognizing his town's public prosecutor as a Nazi. Although Giller was nearly put to death (for stealing two chocolate bars) by the Nazi (Held), he holds no bad feelings, trying hard to
forget the atrocity. Held, however, believes Giller to be plotting something and tries to have him removed from the town. The citizens offer no support, so Giller, in an attempt to be brought to trial, steals some chocolate from a shop window. Haunted by his past, Held goes into a rage during the
