The setting serves as the central character in this threefold tale of dancers who spend their time at New York's Roseland ballroom. The three main characters are Wright, a widow whose memories flow when on the dance floor with Jacobi; Walken, a gigolo involved with the dying Copeland and the pesty Chaplin; and Skala, the film's one treasure as an elderly German lady who works as a cleaning woman in order to pay for her night out. It's technically careless and below par, but this is due unfortunately to a meager three-week shooting schedule. The stories that surface from the technical problems, however, are filled with liveliness and charm. Some of the dance classics on the soundtrack are "Baubles, Bangles and Beads," "Stranger in Paradise" (George Forrest, Robert Wright), "Moon of Manakoora" (Alfred Newman, Frank Loesser), "On a Slow Boat to China" (Loesser), "Rockin' Chair" (Hoagy Carmichael), and "Super Cool." leave a comment
