Rome during the final days of Julius Caesar is brought to the screen by Hungarian director Jancso with brilliant Polish actor Olbrychski starring as rebel leader Claudius. The title is a variation on the line spoken by Olbrychski after being deposed: "I dream of a world without Caesars."
This is one of a number of pictures Jancso made in Italy, this one for television. Shot in the Tunisian desert, the awesome visual style--the vast landscape, rolling hills, and sweeping horizons--are only enhanced by their transfer to the big screen.
