Producer-director-writer Delmer Daves needs work on all three fronts in this cliched tale of librarian Pleshette who vacations in Rome with the hope of experiencing love. She is soon working in a bookstore. Donahue goes out with her when his rich girl friend, Dickinson, returns to the US.
Pleshette falls in love with him, and when Dickinson returns to Rome to reclaim him, Pleshette goes home discouraged. She is surprised to find Donahue waiting for her to arrive. The only thing that hits the mark here is Max Steiner's score.
