One of only a handful of films noirs to emerge from glossy MGM, this variation on The Big Heat (which was also based on a novel by William P. McGivern) works chiefly on account of Robert Taylor's fine performance. He plays a deeply corrupt veteran policeman who goes on a rampage after his little brother (Steve Forrest) — a rookie cop — is offed by mob boss George Raft.
