Rocky: Review

An over-emotional tale about a teenage boy, McDowall, who wanders through the West with his canine companion. ROCKY was one of many pictures that paired McDowall with an animal. He had a small role in SCRUFFY (1938) and a lead in LASSIE COME HOME (1943), both pictures with lovable dogs. He also appeared in three horse movies, MY FRIEND FLICKA (1943), THUNDERHEAD--SON OF FLICKA (1945), and BLACK MIDNIGHT (1949); two cat films, THAT DARN CAT (1965) and THE CAT FROM OUTER SPACE (1978); and a shark movie, KILLER SHARK (1950). These roles so influenced his career that McDowall went on to play an ape in all five "Planet of the Apes" pictures and on the subsequent television series. leave a comment
