An over-emotional tale about a teenage boy, McDowall, who wanders through the West with his canine companion. ROCKY was one of many pictures that paired McDowall with an animal. He had a small role in SCRUFFY (1938) and a lead in LASSIE COME HOME (1943), both pictures with lovable dogs. He also appeared in three horse movies, MY FRIEND FLICKA (1943), THUNDERHEAD--SON OF FLICKA (1945), and BLACK MIDNIGHT (1949); two cat films, THAT DARN CAT (1965) and THE CAT FROM OUTER SPACE (1978); and a shark movie, KILLER SHARK (1950).
