I, Robot

2004, Movie, PG-13, 110 mins

starstarstarstar
There's so little of I, Robot writer Isaac Asimov in the mix that his contribution to the screenplay is relegated to a "suggested by" credit, and sci-fi savvy moviegoers will recognize the movie's debt to Blade Runner, 2001 and RoboCop. The surprise: Derivativeness aside, it's an unexpectedly engaging futuristic mystery that hinges on the confounding possibility that a mechanical being may have committed murder. Will Smith stars as the robophobic police detective who suspects that the sudden death of a cutting-edge roboticist (James Cromwell) wasn't a suicide. Read the complete review for I, Robot

I, Robot — Blu-ray Review

Will Smith stars as a police detective investigating the suspicious death of a scientist in I, Robot, the 2004 action-packed blockbuster movie from director Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City), based on the short stories by Isaac Asimov. This single-disc Blu-ray release is an update of their 2005 Collector's Edition DVD release, and all the bonus material from that release has been brought to Blu-ray, plus this release includes an "Annotated Guide" and a "Search Index" which wasn't present on the DVD.I, Robot is a movie I've meant to watch for a long, long time. I almost picked up the original DVD release, then passed it over when I heard a Collector's Edition was coming, which I then forgot to buy. I've seen it in the discount bin from time to time, but kept putting off buying it, and then I heard about the killer Blu-ray release that was in the works. I feel fortunate not to have watched the movie on DVD, since now I can experience the movie for the first time in high definition.The... read more

Galactica Boss Inks Deal to Do Moore for NBC U

Ronald D. Moore has scored a new two-year, seven-figure deal with NBC Universal Media Studios, where he will continue overseeing Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica during its final run, as well as develop new projects. NUMS, says Variety, is hot to get a new Moore series on the air for fall 2008, perhaps a comedy ("When an Earthling and a Cylon wind up as roommates, it's pure mayhem!") or even another sci-fi redo. "It sort of depends on what it is," Moore tells the trade. "My first instinct is to do something new and of my own [creation]. But I'm not averse to doing a new spin on something else. I will be as curious as you to see what my next project is."On the feature front, Moore is at work on a sequel to I, Robot and a remake of John Carpenter's The Thing. read more
