Menjou and millionaire Hubbard escape from a mental hospital and hook up with bankrupt carnival owner Landis. Some completely zany moments add a nice touch to this otherwise standard picture. Some sources include Gordon Douglas and Hal Roach, Jr. in the directing credits with Hal Roach, Sr. The younger Roach added a helping hand on a number of his father's projects, and at the time of this film he would have been a mere 20 years old. Note also that silent star Harry Langdon contributed to the screenplay for ROAD SHOW. Langdon fell on hard times with the advent of sound, but Roach enlisted the silent comic's talents after his star had faded. Songs include: "I Should Have Known Years Ago" (Hoagy Carmichael, sung by Carole Landis), "Slav Annie," "Yum, Yum," "Calliope Jane" (Carmichael, Stanley Adams). leave a comment
