Despite some very good footage of circus stunts and the inclusion of Spillane playing himself as a detective, this story of a maniacal ringmaster out to destroy the circus is pretty flat. McClory is the ringmaster whose jealousy of Beatty makes him want to destroy Beatty's circus. He uses a drunken clown to carry through his plans. McClory is also angry because the girl he fancies is getting ready to marry someone else. Spillane and cop Strang are called in to sort out the strange happenings. McClory gives a stunning performance as the half-crazed man, making himself likable despite his ruthlessness. leave a comment
