DO THE RIGHT THING
starstarstarstarstar
Spike Lee's promise as an important American filmmaker was largely fulfilled with this provocative and very controversial look at the perilous state of race relations at the tail end of the 1980s. On the hottest day of the year, a deceptively quiet Brooklyn street explodes in violence. Lee acts, writes and directs with a firebrand's sense of purpose, but his film is also colorful, funny and very entertaining. Read the complete review for Do The Right Thing

November 16, 2006: Reason to Believe

Tonights episode was directed by Ernest Dickerson who is best known for his work as a cinematographer on a number of Spike Lee films including Malcolm X Jungle Fever and Do the Right Thing This is his third directing stint for ER having worked on two episodes in 2005 Mr Dickerson definitely crafted an edgier more intense episode than weve seen in recent weeks with cases that were compelling and polarizingTensions were running high on many fronts Luka and Abby faced off over a possible spousal-abuse case and ran up against their complicated work relationship as he reminded her of her place in the pecking order Lets try this You be the resident Ill be the attending OK Ouch Of course his callousness was likely the result of his agitation over the package he received from Curtis Ames When he pulled the cop aside to ask for his help his fear for his family was palpableFred Ward has been popping up all over my favorite hospital dra read more

Spike Lee Inspired King of the Hill?!

This Sunday (at 7:30 pm/ET) will mark the 200th episode and 10th season finale of Fox's King of the Hill. The achievement is yet another feather in the cap of series creator Mike Judge, who turned Beavis and Butt-head into household names and directed the oft-quoted cult hit Office Space. Everybody Hates Chris A double...

Everybody Hates ChrisA double dose of Chris tonight, although both were repeats. But that's OK, the writing was strong enough to make me laugh the second time around. The bike episode reminded me that Rochelle is completely nuts. Why was she freaking out just because Julius cooked and cleaned better than she did? Honey, enjoy yourself! As a Jewish girl who orders in Chinese every night and has a maid, I would love it if my husband could take care of me like that. Rochelle also scared me with her business fashion. Those '80s shirts that tied at the collar, ewwww. Why did we ever burn bras? We should have just burned those blouses. (At least bras have a purpose.) There was a Do the Right Thing riot clip (yes, Gabe, as per your astute read more

I'LL BE DAMMED

(And with that headline, it's certain.) Filmmaker Spike Lee has announced his plans to develop a film for HBO about the Hurricane Katrina-related flooding in New Orleans, called When the Levee Broke. No stranger to controversy, the writer-director of Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X says conspiracy theories that the U.S. government somehow engineered the displacement of the predominantly black and poor Ninth Ward are "not too far-fetched," and may be explored in his film. read more
