Boyd's young pal Crane is in trouble with some gamblers. Boyd gets the local lawmen to let the kid hide out at his Bar 20 ranch to trap the real crooks, whose leader turns out to be local banker Halligan. This marked the 50th film of the "Hopalong Cassidy" series, of which critics
apparently were rapidly tiring. Boyd's earlier films had received good reviews. However, at this point critics unofficially began lowering them to B status and giving them short, inconsequential reviews. This also marks Mitchum's last B western villain role. RIDERS OF THE DEADLINE apparently
proved the critics right with its standard production credits and story line.
