Standard soaper features Burr as a powerful and influential public relations man. It is his job to keep snooty VIPs' scandals out of print. The job embitters him because none of his clients will accept him as a peer. Taylor is a Korean War veteran Burr hires, a man whose father was a poverty-stricken railroad worker.
