In this adaptation of H. Allen Smith's best-selling novel, an eccentric millionaire (Gene Lockhart) becomes so taken with the golf ball-stealing antics of Rhubarb, a tough alley cat, that he takes the stray home with him. His admiration for the cat grows until Rhubarb becomes the principal heir to his vast fortune, including a lousy major league ball club, the Brooklyn Loons. With Rhubarb as its owner, mascot, and good luck charm, the team begins winning, although the cat's guardian and team press agent, Eric Yeager (Ray Milland), experiences some difficulty because his girl friend (Jan Sterling) is allergic to felines. This affliction turns out to be a godsend, however, when Rhubarb is kidnaped by gamblers who want the ball club to lose, culminating in some last-minute zaniness at the big game. leave a comment
