Rhapsody In August

RHAPSODY IN AUGUST is Akira Kurosawa's elegiac treatise on the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki on August 8, 1945, and its aftermath. Sad to say, it is far from a major statement from one of our greatest living directors.

While their parents are off visiting relatives in Hawaii, four children spend the summer with their grandmother, Kane (Sachiko Murase), in Nagasaki. They become obsessed by the nuclear catastrophe which occurred there, asking endless questions and making frequent pilgrimages to the various memorials and bomb sites.
