Dirty politics among members of the Roman Senate set the stage for Browne to gather together a small band of gladiators and avenge the death of his brother, Longo. Vargas wants to be named dictator of Rome, so he plants the rumor that Longo has rebelled against the empire. When Browne finds his family brutally murdered, he sets out to get the culprits, joining with a legion led by Mitchell. But Mitchell turns out to be working for Vargas, which leads to an ingenious plan on the part of Browne to play dead, then rise to attack the unsuspecting culprits.
