Five years after their characters were introduced in THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER, Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson) and Jessica Harrison (Sigrid Thornton) complete this romance about horse lovers. The setting is Australia in the 1880s. Jim returns to his beloved rustic cabin in the mountains after rounding up a herd of wild horses that he hopes will get him the stake he needs to continue his courtship of Jessica. Jessica's father (Brian Dennehy), however, wants his daughter to marry the banker's son, and Jim and Jessica have their work cut out for them if they're going to get together. The plot is a simplistic love triangle, but the performances by Dennehy, Burlinson, and Thornton breathe enough life into the old cliches. Even more noteworthy is the photography that lovingly captures the horses and the grandeur of the Australian scenery. leave a comment
