Gough is a wandering Irish tinker, married to Dunne. He accidentally kills O'Gorman, a gamekeeper, and runs from the Civil Guard. There is potential for some interesting drama here, but it is defeated by the unsympathetic characters and somewhat sappy plot development. However, the location
work is excellent, with a nice use of the Irish landscapes. Director Rotha was a former documentary filmmaker, and this was his first feature effort. His use of natural settings and detailed development works to some advantage, but unfortunately not enough to save the picture.
