1984, Movie, NR, 88 mins

When Reno Coltchinsky (Ken Welsh), a 40ish mountain man and loner, meets Doc Billings (Henry Ramer), a former con man a few years his senior, the two quickly grow close--not surprisingly, since they're telepathic. The friendship is tested, however, when Doc convinces Reno to hit the professional ski circuit, where Reno must contend not only with obnoxious champ Gunther (Damien Lee) but also with his own aging body. By the "exciting" finale, of course, Reno saves the honor of middle-aged men, wins a fortune for the gambling Doc, and impresses a pretty sportswriter to boot. Dubiously advertised as "a heartwarming adventure about two irascible `old men' who refuse to grow up," RENO AND THE DOC is filled with extraneous scenes, bad acting, inane dialog, and silly plot devices (namely the telepathy, which in one embarrassing scene includes Doc experiencing Reno's orgasm). To top it all off, the ski footage is unspectacular to say the least. leave a comment
