A very good cast, an able director (Carol Reed, better known for THE THIRD MAN), a slick production, and an H.G. Wells story should add up to a fairly good movie, but something went wrong in this story about shop clerk Redgrave who remains a virtual nonentity until he becomes the heir to a vast fortune.
