Pidgeon and Lawford play two British officers in Vienna shortly after WW II, where the Soviets are rounding up their refugees to take back to Russia for an unmentionable fate. The other Allied forces agree to aid the Soviets. Ballerina Leigh is a problem; the sweetheart of Lawford, she is also a major figure wanted by the Soviets.
