In the early 1930s Universal planned to produce a series of features in Germany. This was the first of the undertakings and, because of the political situation, the last. Directed, written, and performed by the prolific Trenker, it's a pretty shaky story about the advancement of Napoleon through the Tyrol region of Germany. Trenker gathers up his countrymen to fight the approaching army, only to meet a heroic but certain death. Script offers far too much dialog, with little action. The movie also features the use of silent film technique. The photography is quite good, and Trenker proves himself a highly talented actor. leave a comment
